Same-Day Wheel Alignment - Sittingbourne and Isle of Sheppey

If your car pulls to one side or your steering wheel isn’t straight, it probably needs a wheel alignment. FSC Motor Repairs checks and adjusts wheel alignment at our Sittingbourne garage, with no appointment needed. It’s usually a quick job, so in most cases you can wait while we do it.

What wheel alignment means

Wheel alignment, often called tracking, is the adjustment of the angles at which your wheels sit, relative to each other and to the road. When the angles are set to the manufacturer’s specification, the tyres roll straight and wear evenly, and when they’re out, the tyres scrub against the road instead of rolling cleanly.

Three angles matter most:

  • Toe is whether the front edges of the tyres point slightly inwards or outwards when viewed from above. It has the biggest effect on tyre wear.
  • Camber is the inward or outward tilt of the wheel when viewed from the front.
  • Caster is the angle of the steering pivot when viewed from the side, which helps the steering return to centre and keeps the car stable.

Signs your alignment is out

  • The car pulls or drifts to one side on a straight, flat road
  • The steering wheel is off-centre when you’re driving straight
  • The inner or outer edges of the tyres are wearing faster than the middle
  • Tyres squeal when cornering at normal speeds
  • The steering feels less precise or doesn’t return to centre as it should

What knocks alignment out

Alignment rarely changes on its own. The usual causes are:

  • Hitting a pothole or clipping a kerb
  • Driving over speed bumps too quickly
  • Wear in steering and suspension components
  • Replacing parts such as track rod ends, steering racks, or suspension arms

If you’ve had a heavy impact, or the car has started to feel different, an alignment check is worth doing even if there’s no obvious damage.

Why it’s worth getting right

Longer tyre life. Misalignment can wear out the edge of a tyre in a fraction of its normal lifespan. Getting it corrected protects your investment, especially after fitting new tyres.

Better handling and safety. A correctly aligned car tracks straight, steers predictably, and is more stable under braking.

Lower fuel use. Tyres that scrub rather than roll create extra drag, which costs you at the pump.

What happens during an alignment

We measure your car’s current alignment angles and compare them with the manufacturer’s specification, and where they’re out, we adjust them back into range, then confirm the steering wheel is straight. If we find worn steering or suspension parts that would stop the alignment from holding, we’ll tell you before going further, because adjusting alignment on worn components is wasted money.

On some modern cars, the driver assistance systems, such as lane keeping, rely on the car tracking straight. If your car has these features, let us know, and we’ll advise whether anything else is needed after the alignment.

Alignment or balancing?

The two are often confused: alignment deals with the angle of the wheels and usually shows up as pulling or uneven tyre wear, while balancing deals with the weight distribution of each wheel and usually shows up as vibration at speed. If you’re not sure which you need, we’ll check both.

Why choose us

You can drive in without booking; the job is usually done while you wait, and you’ll know the price before we start. We’ll also check for worn parts first, so you don’t pay for an alignment that won’t last.

As a local, independent garage, we know your time matters, which is why we offer same day repairs to get you back on the road quickly. However, please be aware that same day service and repairs are subject to part availability.
