Fast-Fit Wet Belts - Sittingbourne and Isle of Sheppey

A wet belt is a timing belt that runs inside the engine, bathed in engine oil rather than sitting outside it behind a cover. FSC Motor Repairs replaces wet belts on Ford, Peugeot, Citroen, and Vauxhall engines, and in many cases we can complete the job the same day at our Sittingbourne garage.

Ford is where we’re best known for this work, but the same problem affects several other manufacturers, and we see all of them regularly.

Which cars have a wet belt?

  • Ford: the 1.0 EcoBoost found in the Fiesta, Focus, EcoSport, and Puma, the 1.1 petrol in the latest Fiesta, and EcoBlue diesel engines, including those in the Transit
  • Peugeot and Citroen: the 1.2 PureTech petrol in models such as the 208, 2008, 308, 3008, C3, C4, and C5 Aircross
  • Vauxhall: the 1.2 petrol engine shared with Peugeot and Citroen, used in recent versions of the Corsa, Mokka, Crossland, Grandland, and Astra

If you’re not sure whether your car has one, give us your registration, and we’ll check.

Why wet belts wear out

Because the belt sits in oil, the condition of that oil matters enormously. Old oil, the wrong specification, or lots of short journeys where the engine never fully warms up can all cause the belt to degrade faster. As it breaks down, small pieces of belt material end up in the oil and can block the strainer that feeds the oil pump. The engine is then starved of lubrication, which can cause serious damage.

Warning signs to look out for

  • An oil pressure warning light on the dashboard
  • The engine management light, or the car dropping into limp mode
  • On some PureTech engines, a brake pedal that suddenly feels hard to press
  • A drop in performance with no obvious cause

Any of these needs checking quickly, as carrying on driving can turn a belt replacement into a far bigger repair.

What the job involves

We replace the belt and its associated components, then check the oil pickup and sump for debris, cleaning them out where needed. The engine is refilled with oil to the manufacturer’s approved specification along with a new filter. If your car has a digital service record, we can update it using our dealer equipment, including Ford FDRS.

Why choose us

Wet belt work needs experience, and it’s one of the jobs we’re known for locally. You can drive in without an appointment, get a clear price before we start, and in many cases have the car back the same day. If the worst has already happened and the engine is damaged, our Sheppey workshop carries out engine rebuilds, so you won’t need to go elsewhere.
