Diagnostics
If a warning light has come on or your car has started behaving strangely, FSC Motor Repairs can carry out a diagnostic check the same day, with no appointment needed. Drive into our Sittingbourne garage and we’ll find the cause, explain it in plain English, and give you a price to put it right.
The check starts with plugging specialist equipment into your car’s onboard computer, which lets us read stored fault codes and watch live data from the engine and other systems. A fault code on its own rarely tells the full story, though. It points to the system reporting a problem rather than the part that’s actually failed, so our technicians follow up with hands-on testing of components and wiring until the real cause is confirmed.
Many garages rely on generic code readers that can only see a limited range of faults. We use dealer diagnostic equipment, including:
That gives us a level of access much closer to a main dealer’s, so we can read manufacturer-specific faults that generic tools often miss, without the main dealer price.
We’ll confirm the cost of the diagnostic check before we begin. Once we’ve found the fault, you’ll get a separate price for the repair, and nothing is done without your go-ahead.
Reading the fault codes takes minutes, but a proper diagnosis usually takes an hour or two. Intermittent faults can take longer, because we may need to road test the car to recreate the problem.
If the light is on but steady and the car feels normal, drive gently and get it checked soon. If it’s flashing, pull over when it’s safe, because continuing can damage the catalytic converter. A red oil pressure or temperature warning means stop as soon as you safely can.
No. Clearing a code switches off the warning light, but the fault is still there, and the light will usually come back. Finding and fixing the cause is the only real solution.
Yes. Intermittent faults are some of the hardest to track down, which is where live data and dealer-level equipment really help. Tell us when the problem happens, and we’ll try to recreate those conditions.
Drive into our Sittingbourne garage at Unit D8 in Trinity Trading Estate, on Mill Way, and we’ll find out what’s going on today.
As a local, independent garage, we know your time matters, which is why we offer same day repairs to get you back on the road quickly. However, please be aware that same day service and repairs are subject to part availability.
