Suspension
FSC Motor Repairs repairs car and van suspension in Sittingbourne and Isle of Sheppey, with no appointment needed. Whether it’s a knock over speed bumps, a broken spring, or a car that’s started to feel bouncy, drive in and, in most cases, we’ll have it fixed the same day.
Your suspension does far more than give a comfortable ride as it keeps the tyres in contact with the road, which affects how well the car steers, corners, and stops.
Potholes on country lanes and town roads alike take a toll on suspension, so it’s worth getting any new noise checked after a heavy impact.
Shock absorbers, also called dampers, control how the car moves after hitting a bump. Worn shocks make the ride bouncy and can increase stopping distances. They’re usually replaced in pairs across an axle to keep the car balanced.
Coil springs. Springs support the car’s weight and can snap, often through corrosion or a pothole impact. A broken spring can damage the tyre and is an MOT fail, so it needs replacing promptly. Like shocks, they’re best replaced in pairs.
Drop links. These small links connect the anti-roll bar to the suspension, and they’re one of the most common causes of knocking noises over uneven roads.
Bushes and ball joints. Rubber bushes and ball joints let the suspension move while keeping it in position, and as they wear, you may notice clunks, vague steering, or uneven tyre wear.
Top mounts. Found at the top of the front suspension, worn mounts can cause knocking and noises when turning.
Many premium vehicles, including a lot of Land Rover, Range Rover, and Mercedes-Benz models, use air suspension instead of conventional springs. Common faults include leaking air springs, a failing compressor, and height sensor problems, often noticed as the car sitting low after being parked or a suspension warning on the dashboard.
Our dedicated Land Rover and Mercedes-Benz diagnostic equipment lets us read air suspension faults accurately and calibrate the system after repairs, which is essential for it to work correctly.
Vans that regularly carry heavy loads wear their suspension faster, particularly springs and shock absorbers. We work on vans up to 5 tonnes, so tradespeople and fleet operators can get suspension problems sorted without losing days off the road.
Replacing suspension components can change your wheel alignment. We check and adjust it after the repair where needed, so the car drives straight and your tyres don’t wear unevenly.
As a local, independent garage, we know your time matters, which is why we offer same day repairs to get you back on the road quickly. However, please be aware that same day service and repairs are subject to part availability.
