Same-Day DPF Cleaning - Sittingbourne and Isle of Sheppey

If your diesel car or van is showing a DPF warning light or has lost power, FSC Motor Repairs can clean the diesel particulate filter the same day at our garages in Sittingbourne and Isle of Sheppey, with no appointment needed. In many cases, cleaning restores the filter to proper working order for a fraction of the cost of a replacement.

We’ll also find out why it blocked in the first place, so you’re not back with the same problem a few months later.

What a DPF does

A diesel particulate filter sits in the exhaust and traps the soot produced by a diesel engine, stopping it from coming out of the tailpipe. Every DPF fills up over time, so it’s designed to clean itself by burning the soot off at high temperature; this is called regeneration.

Regeneration happens naturally during longer drives at steady speeds, when the exhaust gets hot enough. The engine can also trigger it by adjusting fuel injection to raise the temperature. Both need the right driving conditions to finish properly.

Why DPFs block

The most common cause is driving that never lets the filter regenerate fully, such as short trips, school runs, and stop-start town traffic. Other causes include:

  • A faulty pressure sensor giving the engine incorrect readings
  • EGR valve or injector problems causing the engine to produce extra soot
  • Using engine oil that isn’t the correct low-ash specification for a DPF-equipped engine
  • Ash build-up, which regeneration can’t burn off, on higher-mileage vehicles
  • Interrupting regenerations by switching off mid-cycle

Signs your DPF needs attention

  • A DPF warning light on the dashboard
  • The engine management light coming on
  • Noticeable loss of power or the vehicle going into limp mode
  • The cooling fan running after you switch off, or idle speed staying high, which can mean a regeneration was interrupted
  • Higher fuel consumption than usual

If a DPF warning appears, a drive of 20 minutes or so at a steady speed on a dual carriageway or motorway can sometimes clear it. If the light stays on, or you’re losing power, get it checked quickly, because a badly blocked filter is harder and more expensive to put right.

How we clean your DPF

We start by reading the fault codes and live data with our diagnostic equipment, which shows how blocked the filter is and whether a sensor or engine fault is to blame. If the filter isn’t too badly blocked, a forced regeneration carried out with our equipment may be enough. Where soot or ash has built up beyond that point, we clean the filter to remove the deposits and restore flow through it.

Any underlying fault, such as a failed sensor or EGR problem, is identified and priced separately, so you can decide how to proceed. Once the work is done, we’ll give you simple advice on helping the filter stay clear.

Cleaning, not removal

We clean and repair DPFs so they work as intended. We don’t remove them. Driving without a DPF fitted is illegal, results in an MOT failure, and can lead to a fine.

Why choose us for DPF cleaning

  • Same day, no booking. A blocked DPF can leave you in limp mode, so waiting a week isn’t practical.
  • Cheaper than replacing. Cleaning is usually far less expensive than a new filter.
  • Root cause found. Our dealer-level tools, including Ford FDRS and dedicated VW Audi Group, Mercedes-Benz, and Land Rover equipment, help us find what caused the blockage.
  • Cars and vans. We work on diesel vans up to 5 tonnes as well as cars.

As a local, independent garage, we know your time matters, which is why we offer same day repairs to get you back on the road quickly. However, please be aware that same day service and repairs are subject to part availability.
